MEDIA TRAINING for local government

Organise an in-house private course

This is the way most organisations choose to work with us. You get to choose the workshop, nominate who you want to sit the session, fix a time and date that suits everyone and decide whether you want online or in-person delivery. We do the rest – even down to tweaking the training to match your specific needs. All we need is a bit of information about you so click the organise button to get the ball rolling.

Price From £799 per session

One-to-one training

Just you and the trainer’s undivided attention. Some people prefer to sit our courses on their own. Click the button to tell us a bit about yourself and suggest a date.

Price From £499 per session

Coaching and mentoring

Maybe you don’t want or need a full training course but would like a little help. Or maybe you’d like a lot of help. Either way coaching and mentoring could be the answer. Tell us more and we’ll be in touch.

Price £199 for first hour, £149/hr thereafter

Self-guided courses

We've partnered with Thinkific to host our self-guided online courses. With prices starting at under £50 we think they're great value for money. They're presented by the same knowledgeable, experienced and enthusiastic trainers behind our face-to-face and live online sessions - with the added advantage that you can sit the modules at your own pace and in your own time. You can even skip to those sections that most suit your training needs. And once you've sat the course if you feel you need further help we now offer one-to-one coaching and mentoring to help you improve your knowledge and skills still further.

Learn how to stay in control of the message.

Media interviews can be tough at the best of times. But for councillors and officers they can be doubly difficult with interviewees facing the twin challenges of making often difficult subject matter clear enough for a lay audience to understand, without getting bogged down in the politics. And often all in a 30 second soundbite!

So at ACM we've developed a media training system aimed specifically at the local government sector. We call it the 3P approach and it comes highly recommended.  Discover how to say what you want to say during interviews without having to wait for the journalist to ask you the right kind of questions. Learn how to plan for interviews at short notice using a simple but effective matrix. Get realistic practice at staying in control of the interview process - even in the face of hostility. And find out how to promote your key messages using practical techniques such as repetition and tagging - the 3Ps in a nutshell.

And, by the way, even if you're not expecting to do an interview anytime soon this training is invaluable for other forms of communication such as bidding for funding or presenting to council and public meetings.

ABOUT THE TRAINER...

Our media training workshops are facilitated by Richard Uridge. As a former BBC broadcaster and journalist, he knows exactly how to help you deal with the Paxmans of this world. His relaxed and informal style will help bring the very best out of you. Read more about Richard here.

What our clients say:

"An excellent training session, very well run and very engaging. I would go as far as to say probably the best training session I have ever been on."
